The following hints come from the actual
Secret Sister
program at Moore's Chapel
1. Find 2-3 people interested in organizing/running the
Secret Sister program. We have 2 women who are involved that do the paperwork, hosting,
etc and a husband who takes care of the name-swapping and questions
throughout the year.
2. Pick a start and end date. We started our Secret Sister program the
first of February and ran through January 31. This avoided having a reveal during the
holiday season.
3.
Give about 3 months notice for women to fill out info cards and get them to
the people in charge. Our info cards ask for name, address, date of birth,
name of spouse and children if any, then more personal things such as
favorite color, flower, music, scent, Bible verse, hobby, etc. Be creative.
4. Once all secret sister info cards are collected (about 2 weeks before
the start date), have the husband or whoever will be exchanging and
answering questions shuffle the cards, record who has whom, keeping a master
copy for his records and sending the original to the secret sister. Be sure
to keep the master copy from year to year so that there are no duplications.
5. Two important things:
A. The main purpose of the program is to uplift your secret
sister in prayer daily throughout the year. If someone is unable to
complete the year, they should contact the organizers so that her sister is
taken care of in her absence.
B. Send cards, notes, gifts to your secret sister so that she KNOWS
that you're remembering her daily. It doesn't need to be extravagant, just
something to let her know she's in your thoughts. We included a letter
stating the importance of these things with the info cards when they were
mailed.
6. The secret sisters are given the phone number to the person with
the master copy in case they misplace their info card or have a question
that he (or she) may be able to clear up with a phone call.
7. Organize a secret sister reveal gathering. Our first year, we had an
afternoon tea where we opened cards that revealed who our sisters were. We
provided finger sandwiches and tea and asked each sister to bring a dessert
for 6 people. It was a lot of fun and even prompted us to plan a cook-out
for this fall. Again, be creative. It doesn't have to be the same each year,
so mix it up and enjoy!!
8. If you have further questions, please feel free to
and I'll try to help as much
as I can. God bless!
