The ExchangeThe Exchange is a youth ministry and community outreach in Rising Sun, Maryland. Marie and Jesse Foster, a Conowingo couple who felt a calling in their life to reach out to young people, started the Exchange. Jesse said the Lord led him to Ephesians 5:8: "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light". The Fosters opened The Exchange at Main and Queen Streets in March 2001. On Friday nights you'll see children inside playing their favorite games, having snacks and sharing a Bible lesson taught by caring, Christian adults. Elementary school aged children come to The Exchange from 5:30-7:00pm. From 7:00-9:00 the doors are open to middle and high school ages. Parents are always welcome to drop in and visit The Exchange to see what we are about, to meet the volunteers, and see what fun it is for their children. Pastors, youth ministers and church leaders are encouraged to visit as well and perhaps get their young people involved. Many of the young people at The Exchange are not from church families. The only time they hear about God and Jesus Christ is at The Exchange. What a testimony it is to see their lives impacted by the Gospel. Of course, we do have children who are from church families at The Exchange as well. These children often bring unchurched friends who may not be willing to attend a church service with them. The prayers and support from the community have been wonderful. The Rising Sun Board of Town Commissioners, and the Rising Sun Community Development Commission are aware of The Exchange and welcome its presence in the community. The Rising Sun Lions Club has also provided support as have several businesses including Aarsand Management, operators of KFC/Taco Bell restaurants in Cecil County. We have presented several Christian coffee house nights at The Exchange. Everything from acoustic praise to hard core-for-Christ rock has been heard inside the walls of The Exchange. (And outside the walls too. One lady was driving around town and heard music. She parked her car and came inside.)
